This evening has possibly been the best New Year's Eve ever for me! There is a New Years Celebration downtown called Starry Starry Night. It's a series of concerts and shows all over downtown and a lot of people gather. Two of my brothers, my sister and I, went down with pockets full of tracts. Vincent got up on a bench and gave away free money in exchange for answering trivia questions, and then popped the question; "Are you a good person?" I wasn't there for part of his preaching because I had to run home and back for more tracts. I was so proud of him, he's so brave to get up there and talk to everyone. When I left, there were maybe 10 people standing around. When I got back and he was finishing up, there were about 35-40 people listening to the Gospel!
We handed out a LOT of tracts (most of which people were happy to take) and we had some interesting experiences. Two of the last people I witnessed to were almost direct opposites. I met a woman who was very opposed to our message. When I asked her if she wanted one, she said "Well is it religious?" The tone of her voice just made me stop, and I wasn't sure what to say. Directly behind her, a woman said 'OH, I'll take one!" in a very cheerful voice. I have no idea who she was, or if she knew me, but I'm grateful to God for supplying someone for that moment. The first woman then informed me that she did not appreciate at all my handing out this material. So we left that spot and almost the next lady I handed a tract to said "no, wait, let me see if I really need it."
So I waited while she read the first few pages and said "Oh wait, I need Jesus, right?" It turns out she's a Christian! I wasn't sure if she was, or she was leading me on, but by the end of our short conversation I was sure she was a fellow believer. It was very encouraging.
Not only have we talked to a few people, but we handed out MANY tracts, and I pray that the people who have them will read them and be drawn to God.
Last, as a few of you know (don't remember if I've blogged it already) my sister and I went off sugar last Sunday for a week. Tonight at midnight the fast is over, and I can eat the sweet bread I just made!!!!
Wheeeeeeeeeee.......Happy 2006 to everyone.
